Case compatibility is determined by the supported socket(s), maximum processor TDP and form factor stated in the product specification. Motherboards within those limits usually fit, but layout can still prevent installation, including heatsink keep-out areas, VRM height, connector placement and M.2 placement. TDP indicates thermal capability, not guaranteed sustained performance. Ambient temperature, workload, placement and BIOS power limits all affect a fanless system.
